Smoking prohibition
Smoking in public places such as airports, train stations, youth hostels, B&B, restaurants and pubs is absolutely forbidden.  Irish people have a great respect of these prohibitions, except in pubs, where it is likely to see people smoking. Moreover, buying cigarettes is pretty expensive in the country, a measure taken to discourage the use of tobacco.

Measures and weights
Although Ireland has adopted the metric decimal system, the old Anglo-Saxon system is still widespread, so be prepared to see measures indicated in miles, pints and pounds.

Here you find a summary of the most common weights and measures conversions:

1 pound - lb = 0,45 kilograms
1 ounce = 28,35 grams
1 Pint  = 0,57 litres
1 gallon - = 4,546 litres
1 mile -1,6 Km
1 Yard (yd) = 0,91 metres
1 foot - ft) = 0,3048 metres
1 inch - = 2,54 centimetres
