Climate and Meteo in Ireland

Irish climate is pretty rainy, but funny enough, nobody uses umbrellas except tourists. In fact the strong winds which blow constantly on the island tend to sweep umbrellas away, therefore a raincoat is to be preferred.

Weather conditions are extremely variable, passing from a sunny day to a rainy and chilly one in a few hours. The rain is the main agent responsible for the thick green grass covering the entire island.

Temperatures are generally mild, ranging from 18°C in summer and 5°C in winter. The best periods to visit the island are spring and autumn.

May and June, in particular, are very luminous, with daylight until late evening. Summer is also a good season, suitable for tourism although hotels and tourist sites can be very overcrowded.

Winter is not recommended, since the weather is pretty cold and many tourist attractions are closed..

How to dress

Whatever the climate is outside, inside pubs and restaurants have very hot temperatures! Do not wear heavy pulls, but rather prefer a good raincoat to repair from the rain and dress in layers, so you can take clothes off when you enter shops and pubs. Another important rule regards shoes, which must be comfortable and suitable for the wet ground. A pair of boot will be enough. Do not forget a scarf to protect ears and throat, as the wind can be very strong, especially near the coast.
